Andrew Lazarus, Sydney hotelier for the last 30 years, has just bought Beach Hotel Merewether.
Lazarus said he was “excited to invest in the future of one of Australia’s most iconic coastal holiday destinations.”
The previous owner, Frank Pannell, owned the property for over forty years and will remain on as a consultant.
Lazarus is looking forward to updating some of the rooms while retaining their traditional charm.

Beach Hotel Merewether is a coastal holiday destination.
Andrew Lazarus owns five hotels in NSW and has been a hotelier for over thirty years.
He and his family love the area, and he wants to continue its tradition of fun and entertainment.
The hotel will be renovated next year, and Lazarus is looking forward to seeing new faces at the hotel while keeping old, loyal friends.
The Beach Hotel Merewether is located at the northern end of Newcastle’s famous beach strip, The Esplanade (known locally as “The Wall”).
It is only 200 meters from Newcastle Casino and fifty meters from the Pacific Fair shopping center.
The Beach Hotel Merewether is within walking distance of Newcastle’s major entertainment precincts – the city’s CBD and Civic Park.
Since Lazarus is a famous hotelier who runs several businesses, there is no doubt the Beach Hotel Merewether is in good hands.
The Lazarus family members are going to participate in the management of the hotel.
For instance, Peter Lazarus will oversee running the hotel. Although there are plans for renovations, the Beach Hotel Merewether is not closing.
The hotel will be fully open and running while the changes are being made.
It will remain one of Merewether’s most popular entertainment venues.
